Christmas Gift Guide Part 4 - Vintage Gift Ideas for Under £20

I’m going to take a slightly different take on the whole Christmas gift selection this week and instead of highlighting a particular type of gift, I’m talking budget. For starters, let’s sit on the fence and go slap bang in the middle money-wise - yes, it’s gift ideas for under £20. You might have already stocked up on most of the presents for the vintage-lover in your life, but if you’re on the lookout for something extra that’s not only pretty, but also pretty fairly priced, you’ve come to the right place. I’ve had a look at what’s on offer from some of my favourite online retailers right now and here’s what I’ve come up with…

Firstly, I need to ring the emergency-very-short-notice-voucher-code-klaxon, so get ready…are you ready? Good. Here goes…this rather amazing Coast discount voucher is going to save you a whopping 25% on your order, but it’s only valid for TODAY ONLY. That’s TODAY 9th DECEMBER 2013, in case you were wondering. Right now, that’s out of the way, let’s concentrate on the goods. For under our crucial £20 budget, I’ve found the gorgeous Belinda Comb for (£13.50 with discount), this Abigail Pearl Bracelet (£13.50 with discount) and the Burlington Leaf Earrings (£15 with discount).

You can breathe a sigh of relief now, because this particular deal is valid until the end of the year, so there’s more than enough time to sort all of your Christmas present requirements as well as claim an extra few quid off. One of my all-time favourite shops, Oliver Bonas, stocks many a beautiful thing, and with this Oliver Bonas voucher code you can get an additional 10% off the lovely bits and bobs – a Set of 3 Floral Hooks (£14.40 with discount), a Lois Bangle (£16.20 with discount) and this Blue Jewelled Photo Frame (£14.40 with discount).

Joules are increasing in popularity, but they will always be one of my go-to sites for quirky, unusual items and I hope they continue to be so well into the future. Not only can you get your hands on excellent clothing for all members of the family, but they go that extra mile when it comes to accessories too. This Women’s Feather Brooch in Dark Violet comes in at £19.95, this Navy Floral Quilted Makeup Bag is £19.95 and this Set of 4 Egg Cups is just £14.95. And don’t forget to take advantage of one of these Joules coupon codes to save a bit more on your order.

Come back next week and I might have sourced some even cheaper vintage-inspired items, just for you. Well, for whoever you’re going to give your presents to, but you know what I mean…

Christmas Gift Guide Part 3 - Vintage Jewellery

Welcome, welcome and many happy returns for the season! I’m allowed to say that because it’s now December. So what vintage-inspired pressies have I got for you today? The answer is there in the title of course – jewellery. So feast your eyes on all the pretty things and maybe you’ll pick up a few ideas on what to buy the jewellery lover in your life. Or you could just go straight ahead and order dome stuff for yourself…

John Greed is an, um, interesting name for a jewellery retailer, but don’t let that put you off. Especially when you can get this White Gold Plated Crystal Blue Butterfly Necklace for £32.95, or this White Gold Plated Pave Quick Step Bracelet for the same price. And for an added incentive (not that you need any), this John Greed Jewellery voucher code gets you an additional 15% off your purchases.

Don’t dismiss some of the big high street names in your quest for vintage-inspired sparkly things – there’s often an excellent deal to be had with some of the more well-known retailers. Take this H.Samuel shopping voucher for example – it saves you up to 50% off gift sets including this Limit Vintage Ladies’ Gift Set, reduced from £27.99 to £24.99.

And they’re becoming a bit of a regular feature on this blog, especially in the lead up to Christmas but there’s a very good reason for that – they’re one of my favourite vintage and vintage-inspired suppliers and they’re well worth looking up. And if that’s not good enough reason for you, I don’t know what is. Yes, I’m talking about Rock My Vintage and they’re fabulous 8% off discount code. This week, continuing with the jewellery theme, you can purchase this Statement Pearl Necklace for £50 to help someone make a, well, statement. Or these Art Deco Feather Earrings for £28, for no other reason than they’re beautiful and excellent value.

So ta-ra for now vintage lovelies and lovers. More gift ideas next week, I promise…

Vintage Party Dresses Galore!

Rejoice! It’s that time again! Not that we ever need an excuse to buy a new dress, but it’s at this point in the year that all our favourite retailers and vintage stockists bring out the big guns and practically lob gorgeous numbers at us right, left and centre (in exchange for monies, obviously, though I wouldn’t say no to a free dress). But where to begin? I think I could fill endless blog posts on vintage-inspired Christmas party dresses galore, but where better to begin that right here?

A new debut retailer on my blog, this one. I’m fairly sure I’ve never mentioned Fever London before, and if it turns out I haven’t then I do apologise because just flicking through their sale gear has revealed a mammoth selection of beautiful items. In the dress category, we’ve got this Mae One Shoulder Dress in Ivory/Black, reduced from £79.99 to £40 and this Delphinium Dress in Nude, reduced from £89.99 to £44.99. And I highly recommend you take a look at their winter coats too. Just use this Fever London voucher code to get up to 60% off selected items.

Next, everyone’s favourite outfitters of the urban variety. Yes! Urban Oufitters! And yes! Urban Outfitters do vintage gear! It was news to me too. With this Urban Outfitters discount voucher, you can get 10% off your order which may or may not include a Vintage Renewal Velvet Bodycon Dress in Black (£45) (available in Blue and Red too, just in case you’ve had your fill of LBDs), and this Vintage Renewal Wednesday Lace Dress (£55).

I don’t think I can write a blog about vintage party dresses without mentioning Rock My Vintage. Yes, I’ve highlighted stuff from them many times in the past, but there’s a reason for that. So if you haven’t used this Rock My Vintage shopping voucher yet, now is your chance. Get 8% off your order, and you’ll save a few quid on one of their stunning flapper dresses, such as this Frock and Frill Zelda one (£135) or if you prefer the prom look, go with the Eucalyptus Darcie Dress (£85).

Look forward to a few more Christmas party dress posts in the next month and you’ll be sure to find something to satisfy your vintage bug this festive season.

Christmas Gift Guide Part 2 - Kitchenware

Yes, I can tell you’ve been on tenterhooks waiting for the second part of my selection of Christmas shopping tips. Well, the wait is over, because this week we’re talking all things kitchen. Or should that be kitsch kitchen? Yes, I think it should.

Let’s get straight to the matter in hand and return to those lovely folk over at Oliver Bonas because more often than not, they’re my first port of call when it comes to anything vintage-related. Whatever I’m deciding to write about on any particular week, I think ‘will Oliver Bonas stock that?’ and the answer is always a big fat YES. So, vintage-inspired kitchenware – I don’t think that description can be summed up any better than by these two items…first up, this nifty little 1960s Flour Sifter for just £12 and secondly, this Original Enamel Bakeware Set for £54.99. And the very best thing about buying them is that you can get 10% off with this Oliver Bonas voucher code.

We all want to cook in style, right? That’s probably why this Cook in Style discount voucher is such a safe bet for vintage kitchen items then. Right now, they’re offering an extra 10% off your order and that includes sale items. And because of this double-whammy of decent value, it is sale items that I’m focusing on today, specifically this Maxwell & Williams Kimono Lilac Two Tier Cake Stand (was £25, now £12.49) and this V&A Museum Flora Bone China Mug (was £11.99, now £7.99). And don’t forget to knock off the extra 10% folks!

You might imagine that The White Company is kind of limited when it comes to a colour palette, but they more than make up for it with oodles of chic items and lovely offers. You can currently enjoy 20% off your order AND free delivery with this The White Company free online voucher, and my two gorgeous picks are this Set of 4 Liqueur Glasses (£32) and this rather amazing Lidded Glass Cake Stand (£75).

I’m rather pleased with this week’s picks, especially that glass cake stand. Not one to clean after you’ve had a few Christmas tipples though…

Kitsch Winter Knitwear

Is it officially winter yet? I’m not entirely sure. For the sake of convenience (and the relevance of this blog post), let’s just assume it is. So I’ve gone on at great length about new season autumnal and winter picks over the last couple of months and now it’s time, seeing as we’re starting to feel a bit seasonal, to zoom in on one specific aspect of winter wear. Yes, we’re talking knitwear. And not just any old knitwear – proper, full on, kitsch winter clobber that it’s is only acceptable to don from November-early January. You know what I mean – snowflakes, woodland creatures, maybe the odd robin or two…

Ok, so ‘Aztec’ doesn’t exactly scream winter, but its woolly and has supreme novelty value, so it’s a winner for me. My first pick comes via this New Look voucher code that saves you up to 70% off selected items, and is this resplendent Blue Aztec Fluffy Jumper reduced from £27.99 to £17.99. And for my next trick, this Grey and White Heart Print Fluffy Jumper for the same price.

Blue Pattern (Blue) Blue Aztec Fluffy Jumper | 291648349 | New LookPale Grey (Grey) Grey and White Heart Print Fluffy Jumper | 286030502 | New Look

I was a big fan of Apricot during the summer as they stocked some gorgeous dresses, and now it seems they’ve carried on the gorgeousness into the colder months. Take this Snowflakes Fluffy Jumper (£27) and this Happy Penguin Jumper (£24). And with this Apricot discount voucher, you can get free delivery when you spend £50 or more.

If you don’t know about Joy buy now, where have you been exactly? If there’s the even the smallest chance that you have used this new customer Joy discount code yet, then use it to purchase one of these beauties. A Louche jumper will set you back £45, (minus 10% with the saving), but that’s a small price to pay for your very own unicorn.

You do realise that’s it’s compulsory to wear a novelty jumper on Christmas Day, yes? Well, if you didn’t know this, then you do now, so get a move on and order one!

Give your home a pre-Christmas treat

Something a bit different this week. I’m not going to talk about winter clothes OR Christmas for a change. Shocking, I know. Ok, so that’s not strictly true – I might mention Christmas in passing, but only as a reference point. Let me explain… it’s at about this time of year that I realise how shabby all my home furnishings are. Every January I make a New Year’s resolution to invest in a new chair/sofa/rug etc and every year, something else gets in the way and I put it off. But if you’re more organised than me and want to spruce up your furniture bits before Christmas then here are a few choice vintagey picks…

Habitat is a chic as it comes on the high street but ordering online with this Habitat voucher code can get you 10% off when you sign up to their newsletter. And 10% equates to quite a bit if you’re buying a larger item, like this Wilmot 2 Seat Sofa or this Ella Fabric Armchair, for example.

WILMOT red fabric 2 seat sofa with multi-coloured buttonsELLA fabric armchair

Dunelm Mill might not be an obvious choice for any vintage-inspired items, but don’t dismiss them out of hand if you’re looking for a bargain. This Gatsby Sofa is currently 20% off, reduced to £479.99, their Mauve Bardot Velvet Armchair is 30% off at £125.99 and if you’ve got a vintage-loving sprog on your hands, this Kid’s Pink Toulouse 1 Drawer Nightstand is 50%, now down to £24.99.

Gatsby SofaMauve Bardot Velvet Armchair

More armchairs you say? Well, I think I’ve got another beauty up my sleeve. With this The Range discount voucher, you can get 15% off selected items including a Martini Swivel Chair, reduced from £67.00 to £49.99.

So that’s your lot for this week. Enjoy all your new chairs and sofas, but make them a priority before you start decorating the tree, or it might be another year before you get around to thinking about them again. If you’re anything like me that is…

Christmas Gift Guide Part 1 - Vintage Wall Art

So welcome to the first of my little Christmas Gift Guides. I haven’t quite yet made up my mind whether I’m going to one every week. I guess it depends of how long it takes me to get fed up with Christmas. Anyway, expect a hiatus or two from it at any rate – I promise they’ll be a few posts where I won’t mention Christmas once in the next few weeks.

The reason I’ve chosen wall art for this post is because I like vintage posters and I wish I had more of them. My problem right now is that I buy them and then store them away with every intention of framing them and my poor walls are all the poorer for said posters staying in their cardboard tubes for months on end. I think my New Year’s resolution will be to frame every poster within two weeks of receiving it (funds permitting). So if you know anyone who’s like me, then you might want to add to their poster (and cardboard tube) collection with these specials…

Where is the prettiest place on the high street? Oliver Bonas of course. But ordering online might be slightly easier on your purse with this Oliver Bonas voucher code that saves you 10% on your order. And as seeing as this post is all about the vintage wall art, I bring you a Vintage British Isles Map Frame and a Vintage London Underground Map Frame, both priced at £65, minus the 10% when you use the voucher code, obviously.

Photo ofPhoto of

If you want you pick of pretty much every vintage poster in existence then all you have to do is use this shopping voucher. It’s that easy. Oh, and you get 25% off too. Even easier. I’m sure you don’t need tempting any further, but just in case, here’s a small selection of their offerings…

With all these vintage poster voucher codes, I really am spoiling you. But I’m not finished yet, oh no. Last but not least it’s these GB Posters discount codes can get you either 20% off posters or 20% off frames. And here’s my pick of their rather impressive bunch – this Great Wave of Kanagawa Giant Poster and this Ge Feng Barcode Girl Maxi Poster. Enjoy.

I’m not going to tell what my Christmas Gift Guide Part Deux will consist of because, to be honest, I haven’t the foggiest myself just yet…

Autumn Makeup Makeover

If you have your favourite vintage makeup look, think about adapting it for the change in the weather – you can still stick with your beloved red lips, but perhaps adapt your eye shadow shade slightly, or ditch the bright summery nails, and go for some more muted, wintry colours. Everyone likes a change now and again…

velvet eyeshadow

So how can how can I help you achieve you autumnal look?  Buy finding you some cheaper cosmetics, of course! First up, it’s every vintage girl’s favourite brand, Benefit. Yes, they’re not exactly famous for their low price tags, but just look at this Benefit voucher code and you could take advantage of up to 50% off selected items. This includes their Velvet Eye Shadow, reduced from £13.50 to £6.75 in the rather seasonal and on-trend shade of ‘Where There’s Smoke’.

Direct Cosmetics are always my go-top online shop for bargain branded makeup, so I would highly recommend you make them your first port of call too. Shimmer with this L’Oreal Color Riche Nail Varnish in Ornimental Gold, now only a teeny-tiny £1.80, or this Hard as Nails by Sally Hansen in Tu Tu Mocha for an even teenier-tinier £1.49.

If you love looking for cheap cosmetics in Superdrug when you’re on the high street, there’s absolutely no reason whatsoever why you can’t do it from the comfort of your own sofa too. This current Superdrug discount voucher is offering you buy 1 get 1 half price on selected L’Oreal makeup, including these L’Oreal Color Riche (again, yes I know, but they do have some fabulous shades at the moment) Made For Me Naturals. My pick of the autumnal colours are Berry Blush and Blush Fever (they’re not blushers, honest).

So hopefully this will get you off to a good start with your autumn colour palette. Remember, no fluorescent shades. And if it doubt, go with the red lipstick every time…
